From hired guns to a real band - with KATRA it came true and luckily so!
In
the summer of 2006, vocalist Katra Solopuro gathered a group of
musicians around her to record and later perform the songs of a
self-titled album KATRA. The record was released in spring 2007,
received good media attention and single "Sahara" was played on radio
through out the spring and summer. While touring around Finland, the
chemistry within the band proved to be really good and sprung an idea of
writing new material together.
In the meantime, KATRA was
noticed outside Finland as well. Napalm Records signed the band and
asked for an international version of the debut. Band had a couple new
songs ready and new english versions of the first album's songs were
done. The album was entitled after one of the new born band's originals:
"Beast Within". After the release of Beast, KATRA played a couple of
gigs in Germany and the audience liked what they saw and heard: KATRA
received nominations in music polls and even won the "best
newcomer"-category of Orkus magazine.
"Out of the Ashes" (October
2010) is the third album under the name KATRA, but actually the first
album of KATRA band. The current line-up is experienced in metal and
music on the whole and has it's own sound which combines metal riffs
with more rock and straight forward parts. Lyrics are also stronger than
before dealing with matters of real human life rather than fairytales.
